Chad and I are the 'oh so proud' parents of a beautiful baby girl! Reagan Elizabeth Stocks made her debut into this world on Saturday June 5th at 9:27 pm!
We were absolutely planning on having a late due date after having been to the doctor the Wednesday before the due date and still being stuck at 1cm dilated. I had been having contractions at night time but they would usually subside by morning. That Thursday night the contractions were even stronger but again went away by Friday morning. Then one of pregnancy's little signs showed up around noon Friday called the bloody show. I called my midwife since the weekend was upon us just to find out what to do and they asked me to come on back to the office to be checked. STILL ONLY 1 cm!! But my midwife did say she predicted a baby over the weekend! So back home we go to wait!
We went out to dinner Friday night to get our minds off things and came home and took a walk around the neighborhood to see if we couldn't help speed things up ourselves! Like clockwork the contractions (that never truly went away Fri) started up strong around 9:30pm. Only about every 7 min apart and bearable. By midnight they were much stronger and by 3 am they were 4 minutes apart and getting to where I had to actually breath through them like I was taught in Lamaze.
We held out calling our midwife till 5am and she told us to hold out on coming to the hospital as long as we could but that she would call now and make them aware that we were coming soon. We arrived at PCMH at 6:30am. After a fairly quick trip to triage it was determined that I was definitely in labor! Even though I was only 2 cm at this point. We got to our room and settled in all the while I'm still having hard contractions every 4 min! Around noon they broke my water and things heated up. The contractions came closer and much much stronger and I was moaning and groaning through everyone one. By 3:45 I couldn't take it any longer and after being checked to find out I was only 3 cm I agreed to an epidural, something I really wasn't too sure about. Feeling much better and relaxed I then went from 3 to 7 cm by 9:15pm. I was also able to get a little sleep since I was up all night at home. Things had and were going so smoothly and we were just waiting on his/her arrival!
Then the unthinkable happened. The baby's heart rate dropped very low at the next few contractions. All the sudden there were 20 some people in my room and i was being flipped and turned in all types of directions. Chad and I were both so scared. Everything was happening so fast and before we knew it they were wheeling my out of the room away from Chad to have an emergency C-section. I was immediately put to sleep and from what I was told they had the baby out 2 minutes later.
"We have a little girl," was the first thing I heard from Chad as I was waking up! Reagan Elizabeth Stocks was born at 9:27pm but was taken straight to the NICU. Sparing all details, we really didn't know how her outcome would go. Reagan was in pretty bad shape but within hours was making improvements. Long story short, we were initially told she would be in the NICU for at least 2 weeks. We brought her home at 100% 4 days later! No one can believe how fast she made a turn around. She is a strong fighter who make her Mommy and Daddy so very proud!
